What is the Second Century of Caring campaign?
The SCC campaign is a $4.8 million fundraising effort to help the Home gain a greater level of financial and operational stability as it expands programs and services. The three main goals include:
1. Maintaining a Balanced Budget by building a stronger Every Day Fund to help handle operational expenses.
2. Extending the Continuum of Care by offering programs, services and facilities that meet the needs of today’s youth.
3. Growing the Endowment to ensure the long-term health and stability of the Home for generations.
Why have campaigns now?
Presbyterian Home for Children held its last capital campaign in 1998 at which time, four new residential houses were built bringing PHFC up-to-date with other childcare agencies.
Since 1998, Presbyterian Home has achieved national accreditation and continues to improve its programs and services for children. The Board and staff are committed to moving forward by offering a new, innovative continuum of care recognizing the individual needs and developmental issues at each stage of a child’s life, preparing that child for reunification with family, adoption or entering adulthood.
How will the $4.8 million be used?
Approximately $2.3 million will be used for capital projects. One of the largest projects involves a new Independent Living Facility that will house 12 young adults working toward their trade, technical or college degree with ongoing staff support.
Renovations and remodeling is needed on the 84-year-old campus. Widespread work must be completed in the Smith Administrative Building, Barkley Building and Terry Gymnasium. Other projects include:
*Expanding recreation facilities;
*Construction of an Automotive and Vocational Education building;
*Replacing 15-passenger vans with safer mini-buses; and
*Completing various beautifications and landscaping projects on campus.
Endowments are the building blocks for the future! The SCC campaign seeks to raise $2.3 million in this area to ensure that Presbyterian Home for Children has a much needed “hedge” against inflation, emergency expenditures or unexpected changes in government reimbursement plans.
